The hidden collection at the Rossendale Museum is carefully tucked away in the attic, a treasure chest of exhibits that the general public rarely have the chance to enjoy. We were invited by Creativity Works to collaborate with the staff at the museum and develop two complementary projects that responded to this collection.
The ‚shop of general interest’
To facilitate this process we temporarily inhabited an empty shop at 40a Bank Street in Rawtenstall. Between Saturday the 12th of June and Saturday the 19th of June the former underwear shop was reopened as ‘a shop of general interest’, in reference to the term originally used to describe the museum as ‚a museum of general interest’.
Visitors were invited to adopt an exhibit from the hidden collections at the Rossendale Museum, or talk to us about the artefacts and treasures that they have tucked up in the attic. / Both of our projects were presented in the shop, ‘The Rossendale Museum adoption programme’, and ‘The hidden treasures of Rawtenstall’.
